Principal Protection & Control Design Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced P&C Design Engineer to lead conceptual and detailed engineering for AIS/GIS substations. The role involves preparing and reviewing various P&C engineering drawings such as Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), Key Line Diagrams (KLDs), Master Connection Protection (MCP) drawings, AC schematics, DC schematics, I/O list, Control schematics, topology diagrams, Interface engineering such as block cable diagrams, cable schedules etc., Protection Settings and various other technical drawings to support the delivery of 400kV/275kV/132kV/33kV/11kV substation projects

Key Responsibilities

  1. Production of Contract Drawing List (CDL)
  2. Preparation of Design Intent Document or Functional Design Specifications for the projects where required
  3. Develop various detailed P&C engineering drawings for the substations such as Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), Key Line Diagrams (KLDs), Master Connection Protection (MCP) drawings, AC schematics, DC schematics, I/O list, Control schematics, topology diagrams, Protection Settings and various other technical drawings to support the delivery of 400kV/275kV/132kV/33kV/11kV substation projects etc.
  4. Develop various interface engineering drawings such as panel GAs, Wiring Diagrams (WDs), Block Cable Diagrams (BCDs), Cable schedules (CSs), core sheets
  5. Preparation of Technical Specifications for secondary equipment such as Relays, control systems, LVAC and DC systems etc.
  6. Design and sizing of LVAC and DC for the substations along with the technical specifications
  7. Sizing of Auxiliary power and multicore cables
  8. Carryout protection settings for various circuits and also be able to carry out grading study for the LVAC and back up OC settings
  9. Will be able to conduct gap analysis between feasibility reports and site conditions
  10. Coordinate with primary and Civils teams for the inputs required for the P&C design pack
  11. Liaise with switchgear manufacturers for technical inputs and review their drawings
  12. Provide inputs into Design Risk Register (DRR)
  13. Participate in Design Review Meetings (DRM) and Hazards in Design (HAZID) meetings
  14. Support project teams during installation, testing, and commissioning
  15. Coordinate and participate in meetings with UK team and various clients
  16. Promote Health and Safety culture within the team
  17. Able to manage small group of engineers (about 4 to 5)
  18. Mentor and develop the team for technical challenges
  19. Provide training to the team on substation related topics
  20. Participate in various exhibitions, where necessary, to promote the company offerings
  21. Able to carry out interviews and recruit suitable candidates for the business

Skills & Competencies

  1. Strong knowledge of AIS/GIS substations, HV equipment, and standards (British / IEC/IEEE).
  2. Expertise in AutoCAD, REVIT, MicroStation (or similar tools).
  3. Knowledge in numerical relay configurations and associated tools
  4. BIM knowledge desirable
  5. Ability to prepare and interpret detailed engineering drawings.
  6. Ability to carryout design reviews on the drawings produced by the team to ensure good quality
  7. Strong coordination and project management skills.
  8. Excellent communication and client interaction skills.
  9. Strong knowledge on MS Office and presentation skills
  10. Able to communicate at all levels

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent)

The role involves preparing and reviewing various primary engineering drawings such as Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), layouts, and various other technical drawings to support the delivery of 400kV/275kV/132kV/33kV/11kV substation projects
